Kandahar’s got talent, y’all. See what our 102nd MPAD saw on talent night.

When I first took the job at the Brookhaven Daily Leader, the senior reporter was a great guy named Scott Tynes, and we’ve stayed in touch through the years through Facebook and whatnot. He’s with the 102nd Mobile Public Affairs Division (102nd MPAD) based out of Jackson, and they’re deployed as we speak. Every once in a while I find things by him and his coworkers on DVIDS.com, which is always fun if you’re into knowing what our troops are up to over there.

Today I was searching for something Mississippi I could share with y’all, and… well… here you go. This b-roll was shot a few days ago by SSG Alaina Broome, who’s with 102nd MPAD, at a talent show held by the Sergeant Audie Murphy club.

I don’t know if any of these folks in this video are from Mississippi, but there’s definitely some stuff you wouldn’t expect to see in the middle of Kandahar. There’s some country, some rap… and some opera and dance too. It kinda makes me wish I could have seen some of the acts in full.

So the moral of the story is, when you go to the desert, don’t forget your harmonica and your ballet shoes.
